Our People

Trillium House Midwives are credentialed as Certified Professional Midwives (CPM), licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and regulated by the Virginia Board of Medicine. As independent practitioners, they see clients for appointments at Trillium House and also attend births at Trillium, in addition to attending visits and births in their clients’ homes.

The Birth Center

Trillium House is an inviting facility where pregnant women meet their care providers for appointments, and can give birth in a comfortable setting. The facility also offers a space where the birth community can gather to share knowledge and support.

How Does it Work?

  • First, contact the midwives listed to check availability for your due time. Use the contact information in their bios here: Our People. Or visit the directory on our Contact page.

  • Schedule a consultation visit with any of the available midwives, and she will show you around Trillium House while you’re there.

  • Reserve your preferred birth suite with us for your due time. We understand babies come on their own schedule and will flex the reservation to match the day you give birth.

Our facility fee is $1,000. We have special rates for Medicaid recipients. If your finances are a barrier to accessing the birth center, email us to see whether any scholarship funds are available through the Trillium Collaborative.

  • You and your midwife will meet at Trillium House for prenatal appointments during your pregnancy.

  • When you start labor, you’ll let your midwife know and then head over to Trillium House. Your midwife and her assistants will stay with you through delivery and up to five hours postpartum.

Trillium House Families

Our Story

Studies have shown that healthy women experiencing normal pregnancies, and their babies, fare very well through the process of pregnancy and birth when they are under the care of a trained midwife. Despite the statistics, our cultural norms and established practices have been slow to support midwifery and out-of-hospital, community births.

After three years operating as a birth center, Trillium House became a program of the Trillium Collaborative, a 501c3 organization, funded by donations from the community. Donations to the nonprofit not only help keep Trillium House in operation, but also help make the Midwives Model of Care™ accessible to more families in the Central Virginia region.
